Welcome to my newly refreshed website and it's just in time for the most wonderful time of the year! FALL!!! I love the colors, the leaves, the crisp air, and especially seeing all the families that I haven't seen all year!
Planning for your family session can be stressful... so I wanted to offer a few preparation tips as we enter into this busy time of year to help you with your planning!
What do we wear??
This is the question that I'm asked most!
Styling your session doesn’t have to be stressful. The most important thing to remember is to keep it authentic to your style... just kick it up a notch or two!
A good rule of thumb is to coordinate but don’t match. Don’t wear matching clothes— no more jeans-and-matching-shirts... let's leave that look in the 90's! Instead, wear colors in a complimentary color palette, such as earth tones and neutrals. Choose one person’s outfit first (usually Mom because let's be real, we stress about our outfit the most!) and then style everyone around that outfit. Pick a 2-3 color palette with neutrals that flow throughout the outfits and mix patterns, textures and fabrics. Pinterest is a great resource for inspiration on what to wear for a family session.
Some other tips:
- Dress in something you feel comfortable and confident in.
- Dress for the weather - if it's cool, be sure to layer up to stay warm.
- Layering is great for visual interest (scarfs, vests, light jackets, etc.)
- Accessorize! Fun hats, suspenders, and chunky jewelry look great in photos
- Make sure your clothes fit properly and don’t bunch or ride up when you are crouching, sitting, etc. Make sure clothes are not too baggy or falling off shoulders or waists and that undergarments are not showing.
- Avoid tennis shoes, flip flops, large logos, thin stripes and animated characters on clothes
- Check clothes and sweaters for holes, pilling, stains, etc.
- Avoid neon colors that may leave a color cast on faces and skin
- Dress kids in clothes they are comfortable in and you don’t mind if they get a little dirty. There is a lot of running, playing, sitting, etc. during our sessions and we want the kids to have a great time!
- Make sure fingernails are trimmed, clean and not chipped if polished.
- Remind Dad (and older brothers) to take bulky items like phones and car keys out of their pockets before we start! Better yet, leave the phones in the car to avoid distractions!
